This is an area with a high tradition in socio-cultural fields. Areekode is an area that achieved 100% literacy even before the state of Kerala achieved complete literacy. Mrs. Chelakkadan Ayisha is a member of Kavannoor Panchayat in Areekode block, who carried out literacy campaign. Dr. M. Usman Sahib, who obtained the first MBBS degree in this area, Retd. DYSP K.V. Ahmedkutty Sahib, P.M. Kumaran Nair, Retd. DDE, V.K.C. Narayanan Namboothiri and others are prominent personalities who have held high positions. Adv. K.V. Salauddin, who was decorated with the post of Kerala PSC Chairman, is a native of Areekode. There are many people who have made great contributions in the religious-political-social-educational fields in this area. N.V. Abdusalam Moulavi, N.V. Ibrahim Master, who led the Senate seat in Kerala Khaleeqate University, K.C. Abubakar Moulavi, and K.V. Moosa Moulavi are some of them. Kanniyatth Ahmed Musliyar, Vaniyampalam Abdurahman Musliyar, and Musliyarakatth Abubakar Qazi were the religious leaders of this area. Thelappuratu Narayanan, who wrote under the pen name ‘Grameenan’ in Mathrubhumi, and Mundamba Unnimammad, a famous Mappila poet, are prominent here.

Poet, lyricist, and editor K.E.M. Pannoor, famous lyricist K.V. Abubakar Kutty, famous Mappila singer Vilayil Faseela, DC of the Institute of Children's Literature Books and C.R. Chandan, who won awards for his novels, and Hafeem Mecheri, a well-known journalist and editor, are present in the field of art, literature and culture. Famous novelist O.V. Vijayan received his primary education from Areekode. A library is functioning in Areekode MSP in his name.
